Bob Armstrong Dip was originated by Matt Martinez Jr. Mattito’s is no longer associated with the Martinez family. While they have a similar style, it’s still better at Matt’s Rancho Martinez. You’re giving the dish’s credit to the wrong restaurant. Do some research. Lame.

  • KentonS

Two words: Wednesday Special. If you know what it means, you are probably from Dallas.

  • Donna Tanner

The Now help us choose the most iconic. Link does not work on mobile as of today, it did yesterday..

  • Don Grimes

El Fenix’s Beef Enchiladas best tasting enchiladas north of
the Mexican border. And the lemon icebox pie is a killer.

Snuffer’s Dr. Pepper BBQ Hamburger, best burger on the
    planet!

  • Katy Elizabeth

Norma’s Cafe’s Chicken Fried Steak all the way! Had some last week but now I’m already craving it again. Same with Fletcher’s Corn Dog. Although, shouldn’t the Bob Armstrong be credited to Matt’s Rancho Martinez?

  • Tamara Francis

    Snuffer’s Cheddar Fries are EVERYTHING!
    OOEY, GOOOEY, CHEDDAR CHEESE GOODNESS!

  • obamaniac

soooo, you’re voting for el fenix?

  • obamaniac

you need to get out more, or you’re referring the Mexican border crossing at Tijuana.

  • Tamara Francis

    Yes sir!♡

  • Dedie

How about Parigi’s 1/2 & 1/2 Chocolate Glob and Peach Cobbler – Iconic for 30+ years and scrumptious!

  • Lynda Wells LaRocca Klempel

NM popovers are the best! Warm and soft on the inside, then slathered with strawberry butter! Heaven! Yum!

  • Marie Duran

This isn’t a competition of who invented it… Its who perfected it and hands down Mattitos has the best Bob in all DFW.

  • GWarchol

    Yes. it should.

  • Mary Margaret Stevenson

Never tried them and I’ve lived in Dallas since 1999! I need to get over there and give them a try. I had no idea.

  • Lynda Wells LaRocca Klempel

Mary, they have them at the following NM Restaurants: Zodiac DT, NM Cafe NP & Mariposa at WB

  • MB

I can’t argue with which queso is best, Matt’s is the choice in Dallas, but you can’t give him the credit for the creation, that has to go to his dad and Matt’s El Rancho in Austin.

  • Adam

This complied list is a joke. The final 4 are a friggin corn dog, an average enchilada, a dept store cafe pop over and a ripped off dip???

  • Lynda Wells LaRocca Klempel

It’s the most ‘iconic dish’, not the best dish. People have their memories tied to this stuff. It’s crazy, but meant to be fun!

  • Adam

So you’re telling me that when someone thinks of Dallas their first thought is a corn dog or a pop over?? Sure, everyone has had the Fletcher Corny Dog because of the State Fair…but I seriously doubt a vast majority of Dallas residents or visitors have been to Neman Markups for a popover.

  • Lynda Wells LaRocca Klempel

Hey, I get it. D Magazine has found something to challenge us and have some fun with it. Look at how many people are reading the article and joining in. If you look at the votes right now there are a lot of people who have had the popovers.
