Before Roswell, there was Aurora. On April 17, 1897, a flying object reportedly crashed on the land of Judge J.S. Proctor, killing the “not of this world” pilot, who was buried in the Aurora Cemetery, among the struggling town’s founders and war heroes. The reported crash has its own historical marker outside the cemetery, located about 40 minutes north of Fort Worth. Cemetery Road, about a half-mile south of F.M. 114, Aurora.
